Position: Manager – Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
Job Profile Summary
The Manager of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) is responsible for driving a Zero Incident and Zero Waste culture across the business. This role ensures that HSE delivery fully aligns with industry standards and Nutrecos global HSE management systems.
The HSE Manager serves as the primary point of contact and subject-matter expert for Health, Safety and Environment across all Nutreco sites within the assigned scope. The role involves developing, deploying, coordinating, monitoring, and continuously improving HSE strategies, policies, and plans to minimize risk and enhance overall HSE performance.
The HSE Manager leads by example and plays a critical role in shaping organizational culture by embedding a Zero Incident and Zero Waste mindset, while supporting operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Culture

Build trust, collaboration, and strong partnerships with the HSE team, operational companies (OpCos), and business leadership.

Actively reinforce a proactive safety culture across all levels of the organization.

Demonstrate strong commitment to employee involvement, team building, diversity, and inclusion.

Drive cultural change to embed Zero Incident and Zero Waste principles.
2. HSE Strategy, Policy, Plans & Standards

Align regional HSE strategy with Nutrecos global HSE strategy.

Support local and regional management in developing HSE roadmaps, objectives, and long-term improvement plans.

Formulate annual HSE plans, budgets, objectives, and targets; ensure effective execution following approval.

Coordinate BU Councils and Quarterly Management Reviews related to HSE.

Ensure full and effective implementation of Nutrecos HSE Management System across regions, countries, and local sites.

Manage the deployment of new or updated HSE policies, programs, standards, and practices, ensuring 100% implementation and compliance.
3. Risk Management, Inspections & Audits

Plan, prepare, and conduct internal HSE inspections and assessments across Nutreco operational sites.

Ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and monitored following inspections and investigations.

Establish, maintain, and continuously update operational risk registers and legal compliance surveillance per OpCo.
4. Training, Advisory & Continuous Improvement

Ensure deployment and execution of all relevant HSE training, induction, and instruction programs.

Provide expert advice and insights on HSE matters through periodic and ad-hoc reports and analyses.

Support management decision-making by highlighting HSE implications and performance trends.
5. HSE Systems, Reporting & Performance Analysis

Deploy and coordinate global HSE tools and systems in line with Nutreco policies, legislation, certification standards, and customer requirements.

Analyze leading and lagging HSE indicators and KPIs to recommend corrective and preventive actions.

Deliver regular HSE performance reports to Regional and Global Management.
6. Incident Management & Crisis Response

Ensure effective execution of all incident management activities.

Act as Lead Investigator for serious or critical incidents.

Take a leading role in crisis and emergency situations to ensure appropriate response and resolution.

Promote experience sharing and best-practice exchange across sites and regions.
7. Projects, CAPEX & M&A Support

Provide HSE support to major projects, mergers and acquisitions, complex shutdowns, and major modifications.

Participate in CAPEX projects and project teams to ensure HSE requirements are integrated throughout all project phases.

Ensure HSE considerations are fully incorporated into design, execution, and commissioning stages.
8. People Management & Capability Development

Build, lead, and develop a team of qualified HSE professionals to support local sites.

Ensure high levels of competence in audits, investigations, risk analysis, reporting, communication, training, coaching, and prevention.

Identify skill gaps and development needs to accelerate the Zero Harm and Zero Waste mindset.

Provide guidance, coaching, and continuous development for the regional HSE team.
9. Communication & Stakeholder Management

Ensure effective communication of HSE policies in appropriate languages and formats.

Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including local Safety Champions.

Foster engagement and commitment to Nutrecos HSE objectives across all levels of the organization.
Qualifications & Experience
-
Bachelors degree in Engineering.
-
Chartered Member of IOSH / Certified Safety Professional (CSP) / Senior Safety Specialist (HVK) or equivalent.

Minimum of 8 years experience in Health, Safety, and/or Environmental roles within manufacturing operations.
